Introduction to Guitalele
Guitalele:
Guitalele is a combination of Guitar (6 string instrument with tuning as EADGBE) and an Ukulele(4 string instrument with tuning as GCEA). Guitalele has its 4 top strings (high pitch strings or thinner strings) tuned as GCEA and 2 bottom strings (low pitch strings or thicker strings) tuned as AD.
Capo:
Capo or Capotasto is an instrument or basically a device used to fret all string on the instruments and thus decreasing the playable length of the instrument and higher or raising pitch of each string.
Effect on Guitar:
If capo is used on the fifth fret of the Guitar, the notes get pitched up by 5 notes. Guitalele's tuning is same as that of the Guitar capoed at 5th fret.
The tuning change for the E string is explained below;
Open - E
1st fret - F
2nd fret - F#/ Gb (F sharp/ G flat)
3rd fret - G
4th fret - G#/ Ab
5th fret - A
Thus, E beomes A, A becomes D, D becomes G, G becomes C, B becomes E and again E becomes A
Pros:
- Handy
- Easy to switch to for both guitar as well as ukulele players
- Sounds great
Note: Tuning mentioned in this page are from low to high pitch.
Thank you.
